I have big news.
I will be spending 9 months student teaching FIFTH graders at Laie Elementary. That is grade 5. Age 10 and 11. Pre teens. Double digits.
These kids terrify me.
Fifth graders can be bullies! I myself was not a fan of fifth grade, it was pure trauma actually. Nanumpka stole my tater tots, Alexis made fun of my pigtails, and all the cool kids teased me for mistaking a rap song for a show tune. Ug. But I do have to say I am pretty excited. Because when I'm done I will be a certified teacher, and that is the only thing I've ever wanted.
PS Can you spot me? Front and center, teddy bear turtle neck, circular glasses and tennis shoes. Ok maybe it's no wonder the cool kids made fun.
Anyways.
I think I have teaching in my blood. For example, I made my little sisters play school with me. I wrote tests and corrected them in my felt tipped red pen. I taught Hannah multiplication and I taught Rachel contractions. They probably hated it but I didn't care. I even remember one time in middle school I wandered into a teacher supply store and was overwhelmed with all the grade books, posters, visa vis markers, and stickers. It was like magic. Teaching just feels right, and it always has. I just want to get started!
Wish me luck :)
Abby
